2025 Scholarship Opportunities
Family First is excited to announce the 2025 Family First Len Szumiloski scholarship! We are giving 3 $2,000 scholarships this year! Click here to go to apply online or download the scholarship form!
Family First is a part of the New York Credit Union Association and that allows our student members to apply for both their Rochester Chapter and New York State-Wide Scholarships!
How To Apply for the Rochester Chapter Scholarship

How To Apply for the State Wide Scholarship
- Complete the Application Form: Fill out the scholarship application form, using only the space provided for your responses. Other than where specified on the application form, no attachments, resumes, pictures or other materials of any kind should be submitted or used to answer the questions.
- Certification and Release Authorization: Both you and your parent or guardian must sign the Certification and Release Authorization on the final page of the application form.
- Credit Union Verification Code: When asked to enter a verification code from your credit union, please use code 2025-042.
- Application Submission: Your completed application should be submitted online via the NYCUA Scholarship Portal by January 17, 2025. Along with your application, please upload:
- A high school transcript documenting your GPA for grades 9-11
- Your essay response
When you go to submit your application, you will need to input your name and email address into the fields labeled “Nominee” and “Nominated By”. Disregard the section that is asking for the reasons for nomination.
Ensure that all sections of the application are complete and all necessary documents are included. Incomplete applications or those missing required components will not be considered.
When uploading documents, please use PDF, Word, or JPG formats only (Google Docs are not accepted). Save and upload the following as three separate files:
- Scholarship Application
- High School Transcript
- Essay

We’re proud to announce the 15th Annual Len Szumiloski Scholarship in the name of our former Family First/Penfield Federal Credit Union President and CEO from 1972 to 1997. Len passed away in 2005, but his spirit lives on in the Credit Union’s love for the community and the people it serves.
Family First will award three $1,000 college scholarships to outstanding local high school seniors who are members of Family First.

To be eligible, applicants must:
- Have an account at Family First in their name and be members in good standing
- Be currently enrolled as a high school senior at the time of application
- Plan to attend an accredited college or university in the 2022-2023 school year
Applications must be postmarked by March 9, 2022 (if mailed) or received in one of our branches no later than Friday, March 11, 2022. Family First employees or their immediate family members are not eligible. Please see the application for additional details.
Scholarship winners will be notified by mail on or before April 13, 2022 and be presented with their scholarship at the Family First Annual Meeting on April 27, 2022.
