At times, unanticipated expenses or unforeseen problems can leave you with too little money in your checking account. Having a check returned, or an ACH debit (like an automatic car or mortgage payment) or having a debit card transaction denied due to insufficient funds can be costly, inconvenient, and embarrassing.
Due to recent changes in federal legislation, all members of financial institutions are now required to opt-in to use certain overdraft services. To meet these requirements, we have upgraded our overdraft protection with our new Enhanced Courtesy Pay Program.
Family First FCU encourages you to handle your money responsibly. However, if you would like to have a back up, our Courtesy Pay programs can help you avoid overdrafts that may cause additional third party fees, returned or rejected items and possible damage to your credit history.
An overdraft occurs when you do not have enough money in your checking account to cover a transaction. When you use Family First Courtesy Pay services, Family First may cover the overdraft, up to a $500 negative balance, when all other overdraft protection options have been exhausted. Other overdraft protection options include accessing MoneyLine line of credit or transferring cash from your savings account. We offer two types of Courtesy Pay programs:
Standard Courtesy Pay is automatically available to members in good standing and provides up to $500 in overdraft coverage for checks, ACH transactions (such as automatic car or mortgage payments) and automatic bill payments. This is an automatic service that does not require the member to complete an opt-in form. With this program, we DO NOT authorize and pay overdrafts for everyday debit card transactions. A fee will be charged to your account each time the Standard Courtesy Pay feature is used.
Enhanced Courtesy Pay includes all the Standard Courtesy Pay benefits, and also allows Family First to authorize and pay everyday debit card transactions up to a $500 negative checking account balance, including applicable fees. Members MUST opt-in to use this service. An Enhanced Courtesy Pay fee is charged to the account each time the Enhanced Courtesy Pay feature is used.

We pay overdrafts at our discretion, which means we do not guarantee that we will always authorize and pay any type of transaction. If we do not authorize and pay an overdraft, your transaction will be denied. The maximum overdrafts covered per account under both the Standard and Enhanced Courtesy Pay programs combined is $500.
